Living in Pererenan: Monthly Villa Rental Guide

What Pererenan is like day to day, who it suits, and how to rent a villa here by the month.

Where is Pererenan?

Pererenan is the village directly west of Canggu, across the river from Echo Beach, in Badung regency. It grew from rice fields and a fishing village into one of the most popular places to live on the south-west coast, but it still feels more residential than the busy streets of Batu Bolong or Berawa.

Practically, that means you are usually about 10 minutes from central Canggu by scooter or car in normal traffic, and about 7 minutes from quieter Seseh to the west. The drive to Ngurah Rai Airport is often about an hour, and longer at peak times, so plan airport runs with a buffer.

What daily life feels like

Pererenan has its own black volcanic-sand beach with a beach break that draws surfers, and the sunsets over the Indian Ocean are a daily ritual. The main road towards the beach has cafés, bakeries, gyms and co-working-friendly spots, so many people can do most of their week without going into Canggu.

Behind the main road you still find rice fields and village lanes. Balinese ceremonies are part of life here – processions have right of way, and offerings line the streets – which is a big part of the charm.

Like most of the south-west coast, the sea has strong currents and there are no lifeguards on many stretches. Most residents swim in their villa pool and use the beach for walks, surfing within their level and sunsets.

Who Pererenan suits

Monthly vs yearly rentals

Many villas in and around Pererenan can be rented monthly, and some also offer a yearly price. A yearly lease is usually paid upfront and often works out cheaper per month, while monthly gives flexibility. Many people start monthly, get to know the area, and then sign for longer.

Current examples from our listings: a modern 3-bedroom villa with sunset views in Pererenan at IDR 325 million per year, and a pet-friendly 1-bedroom pool villa in nearby Tumbak Bayuh at IDR 18 million per month or IDR 180 million per year. For shorter stays, a 2-bedroom private pool villa in Pererenan is available by the night.
